Troop Rules
|
Scouts
will conduct themselves at all times in the spirit of the Scout Oath and
Law. Scout
uniforms will be worn to all Scout functions, including Troop meetings;
campouts, Courts of Honor or any Scout sponsored activity. Summer
uniform (Class B) can be worn during specified times or activities. At
no time are Scouts of Troop 103 to be dressed in camouflage uniforms,
shirts or pants, etc. Scouts
must obtain a Totin’ Chip before carrying or using a knife, ax or saw.
At no time will a Scout carry a fixed blade knife, switch blade,
butterfly or double-edged knife. They are not permitted on any Scout
reservation or on any of the Troop outings. All
Scouts will be properly trained in the operation and use of lightweight
stoves as well as proper fire building/starting techniques. Stoves, lanterns and fires are used only with adult
supervision. Fireworks,
alcohol, tobacco products, drugs, etc. are strictly forbidden at any
Scout function. No
lantern, candles or any open flames are permitted in tents. Annoying
devices (water pistols, radios, Walkman tape players, electronic games,
etc.) are not permitted at Scout functions. However, electronic
entertainment devices may be used on long distance travel to and from
our destination provided that they do not distract the driver. Please
ask the driver before using any of these devices. Scouts
are responsible for malicious damage done to Troop property and
equipment. Physical
and mental harassment of other Scouts will not be tolerated.
Fires
are to be built only under adult supervision and maintained with the
safety of all Troop members in mind. We follow the guidelines of the BSA
in building fires. A
Scouts action should keep in mind of our goal of a safe and successful
outing for all those concerned. This would include rowdy behavior in
camp or dangerous activity around the campfire. A
Scout accepts his responsibility to honor the Scout Oath, the Scout Law
and the Outdoor Code at all times. Violation
of these rules may necessitate a call to a boy’s parents to come and
get him from any Troop activity. The Scout may not be allowed to
participate in our next activity and in effect is placed on probation.
Repeated breach of conduct by a Boy Scout will result in his being asked
to leave the Troop. Any fee assessed the Scout cannot be refunded in the
event of his removal from an activity. A
Special Note to Parents: We
are not in the habit of informing you of every minor violation of Troop
Rules. That would not be in the best interest of your son and would be
counterproductive to his growth in Scouting. We will make attempts to
correct problem behavior in a fair, consistent and normal fashion. Corporal
punishment will never be allowed by any adult. Discussions of
individual rules violations will be done in private with the Scout and two adults. If, however, we do find the need to consult
you, rest assured that the incident that prompted the contact was seen
as a serious threat to the health or safety of our boys, or was
detrimental to the good of the Troop. Most likely it came as a
culmination of several efforts to correct unwanted behavior(s). We thank
you in advance for your support on this point.
